Wednesday, August 5, 6 to 7 p.m., Great Depression Lecture Series: Land of Our Own?, at Wood County Museum In remembrance of the 250th birthday of the United States, this program series showcases the history of Wood County and as well as boosting the community spirit through outdoor activities and events.
Thursday, August 6, 10 a.m. to noon, Dragonfly Wander, at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve Spend a morning exploring and learning more about these fascinating ancient creatures. The class will look for adult dragonflies, observe baby dragonflies and learn about their ancient past. This class is appropriate for teens and adults.
Friday, August 7, 9 p.m. to midnight, Toledo Astronomical Association Viewing Nights, at Beaver Creek Preserve Join the Toledo Astronomical Association and the WCPD for a night under the stars. Feel free to bring a chair and blanket. This program is free and open to all. No registration needed. Stargazing begins at dusk and may be cancelled due to unfavorable weather. Sunday, August 9, 10 to 11:30 a.m., Mountain Bike Skills Workshop, Rudolph Bike Park Take your bike-ability to the next level with instructors from The Right Direction Youth Development Program. A properly-fitting helmet and mountain bike are required. Skills covered will be determined by participants at the program.
Sunday, August 9, 1:30 to 3 p.m., Film at the Farm “The Story of the Great Black Swamp,” at Carter Historic Farm Join Chase Fleece for a viewing and discussion of “The Story of the Great Black Swamp,” a 1982 documentary produced by WBGU-PBS. Light refreshments—popcorn and iced tea—provided.
Sunday, August 9, 6 to 7 p.m., Bubble Bop!, at William Henry Harrison Park WCPD will have bubble machines, large wands and other fun bubble toys to play with while listening to favorite kid-friendly tunes.
Mondays, August 10 and 24, 4 to 7:30 p.m., Paddle the Pond, at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve Hop in a canoe or kayak and have fun on the pond. Perfect for a family outing, comfort-builder for beginners or relaxing exercise. An instructor will be available for introductory safety and skills education. All boats, life-jackets and paddles provided.
Wednesday, August 12, 8:30 to 10 a.m., Coffee With the Birds, at William Henry Harrison Park Enjoy a birding stroll with coffee. The class will visit different parks and start with a warm drink before heading out on the trail. Register for one or all monthly programs.
Friday, August 14, 10 to 11:30 a.m., Jr. Explorers: Butterflies, at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve What is metamorphosis? What is migration? Explore the life cycle of butterflies, their special abilities and traits, common butterflies of Wood County, and go on a nature walk to find these pretty pollinators. ✲
