Hulk stands strong despite colorectal cancer
MARCH IS NATIONAL COLORECTAL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH. Friday, March 4 is Dress in Blue Day to bring awareness to this type of cancer and honor those who have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. According to Colorectal Cancer Alliance, an estimated 151,030 will be diagnosed with this type of cancer in 2022. There are over 1.4 million cancer patients and survivors living with colorectal cancer today.
One such person is a local man who is the president of a law-enforcement motorcycle club. His road name is Hulk. He was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer on June 10, 2021. As his road name implies, he remained strong throughout his experience, viewing his diagnosis as “another speed bump in my road of life that I have to get past.” Hulk has endured 28 treatments of radiation along with eight and a half months of chemotherapy. He lost 68 pounds in two months. He has continued to work throughout his treatment.
Cancer changes every single person’s perspective on life. Some get angry and ask, “Why me?” Others allow it to teach them to live for the moment and take one day at a time. For Hulk, his cancer experience made him realize how precious the time is that he spends with his children. It also helped him to make better choices about what he eats.
Hulk’s cancer experience is not yet over. He will now be meeting with his surgeon to talk about surgical options. He remains positive and determined that he will win this fight. His strength is evident, which makes his road name all the more fitting!
