Saturday, September 5, from 6 to 7 p.m., Bubble Bop! at Sawyer Quarry Nature Preserve There will be bubble machines, large wands and other fun bubble toys to play with while listening to kid-friendly tunes. Children of all ages and families are welcome.
Tuesday, September 8, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Book Club, at Carter Historic Farm Kristin Hannah is an author known for popular works. “The Four Winds” is a historical fiction novel which follows a mother and her children.
Wednesday, September 9, from 6 to 7 p.m., Film at the Farm: Ohio: Wild at Heart, at Carter Historic Farm Viewers will learn of the conservation efforts to save the bald eagle and trumpeter swan and explore the state through the seasons. Light refreshments of popcorn and iced tea will be provided.
Thursday, September 10, from 6 to 7 p.m., Steps for Success: Best Practices for Transitioning To and Maintaining Native Plants, at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve Topics to be discussed include moving beyond mulch, plant selection, site preparation, management concerns and being BRASH.
Friday, September 11, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Preschoolers in the Parks: Peak of the Prairie, at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve.
Ages 3-6 can make a connection with the parks and preschool peers. A story and a brief walk afterwards will be a part of the experience.
Saturday, September 12, from 2 to 4:30 p.m., Trees and Woody Plants of the Great Black Swamp, at Bradner Preserve Hit the trail and learn some basic tree and woody plant identification on this program. Wear appropriate footwear and long pants. Bug repellent spray also recommended.
Sunday, September 13, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Mountain Bike Skills Workshop, at Rudolph Bike Park Take your bike-ability to the next level with instructors from The Right Direction Youth Development Program. A properly-fitting helmet and mountain bike are required.
Sunday, September 13, from 1 to 3 p.m., History Talk Then Walk: The War of 1812, at William Henry Harrison Park This program will feature a lecture followed by a stroll through the grounds of General William Henry Harrison’s encampment at William Henry Harrison Park.
Mondays, September 14,, 21 and 28, from 5 to 5:45 p.m., Chair Yoga, at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve
A gentle form of yoga practiced using a chair on top of a mat. It is designed to make yoga accessible to individuals with limited mobility. Bring your own mat.
Mondays, September 14, 21 and 28, from 6 to 7 p.m., Mat Yoga, at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve Join the class for an all-levels yoga practice. This practice will be a combination of standing poses and poses on the mat. No yoga experience is necessary.
Tuesday, September 15, from 11 a.m. to noon, Serving Up Knowledge: Inviting Fall Color To Your Yard, at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve Pack a lunch and learn about native plants that are known for their fall color that can be planted in local yards.
Tuesday, September 15, from 6 to 7 p.m., Cover Crops for Home Gardens and Small Farms, at Carter Historic Farm Participants will explore species selection, planting techniques and methods of termination or incorporating cover crops into the garden or farm.
Thursday, September 17, from 6 to 8 p.m., Spectacular Spider Search, at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve The eight-legged friends are plentiful and busy this time of year. Come with an open mind and learn about these web-spinning wonders.
Friday, September 18, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., at Black Swamp Glow Roll, Black Swamp Preserve Illuminate your bike with bright decorations and learn important safety tips for riding at night before hitting the trail together.
Saturday, September 19, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Adopt-A-Crag Volunteer Day, at Sawyer Quarry Nature Preserve Help the parks improve accessibility and user-friendliness through projects like graffiti removal, cliffface cleaning and trail maintenance, to make Sawyer Quarry even better.
Sunday, September 20, from 8:30 to 10 a.m., Pollution Pirate Paddle, at Farnsworth Boat Launch Join in on the fun and bring your own Jolly Roger and pirate attire while helping to keep the waterways clean. Any tools or equipment needed for the trash pickup and paddling program will be provided.
Sunday, September 20, from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday Stroll at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve This program series visits a new park each month and moves at an easy pace. Classes will focus on fresh air, gentle movement and mindful moments.
Wednesday, September 23, from 8:30 to 10 a.m., Coffee With the Birds, at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve Enjoy a birding stroll with coffee. The class will start with a warm drink before heading out on the trail. Register for one or all monthly programs.
Thursday, September 24, from 10 to 11 a.m., Homeschoolers: From Green to Gold-The Science of Leaves, at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve Join this class for a science lesson on autumn leaves. Students will read books and explore outside to get the best understanding of this strange natural phenomenon.
Thursday, September 24, from 7:30 to 9 p.m., Full Harvest Moon Walk, at J.C. Reuthinger Memorial Preserve Join the class for the first and most beautiful full moonrise of the fall season.
Enjoy a moonlit stroll around the lake and along the woods and learn some moon lore.
Friday, September 25, from 5 to 6 p.m., Art Remix: Surrealism, at Carter Historic Farm Channel your inner Dalí and use a variety of materials to create your own masterpiece in a casual environment. No experience needed.
Friday, September 25, from 7 to 8 p.m., This Land is Your Land– Exploring America’s Public Land, at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve This is an overview of the government agencies that oversee public lands, the different land classifications and how to legally camp on them for free. ✲
