Manifestation: understanding the law of attraction

OPRAH WINFREY LIKES TO CREDIT her success in life to a keen understanding of manifestation, the law of attraction. And even centuries ago, Plato seemed to know it too, when he observed, “like attracts like.” If understood and applied correctly, the law of attraction and associated manifestation techniques could potentially change our worldview and bring about a positive shift in our lives.

The law of attraction states that we attract events and situations of similar frequency as our feelings, thoughts, and beliefs. Be it consciously or without our knowledge, we constantly broadcast a vibrational energy that determines the circumstances, the experiences, and the people we attract or repel. Also known as the law of manifestation, this tenet places emphasis on the power that our thoughts can have over the outcomes or events in our lives.

The law of manifestation works along a similar ideology: what you focus on becomes your reality. However, focusing your thoughts only isn’t enough to manifest your dreams. Aside from the hard work it involves, it requires positive thinking and action on your behalf as well. The law of manifestation is based on the principle that your thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and actions can transform into physical reality through focus and supportive action. Manifestation is essentially a process of transformation, becoming that which you seek and actively calling in the life you desire. Manifestation is all about pairing mindset with action to get real results. It was popularized in 2006 by Rhonda Byrne’s book and movie, The Secret, describing the universal principle that our thoughts create our reality. We are what we think, consciously and unconsciously.

Manifestation works through the law of attraction, one of the 12 Universal Laws. This law states that “like attracts like,” and you get what you focus on. A key to remember with the law of attraction is that the universe recognizes resistance and scarcity mindsets. You have to actually believe in what you want—and your ability to get it. For example, if love is what you’re seeking but you don’t truly believe that you’re lovable and you’re not displaying love for yourself, others, or the collective, you are not aligning or attracting loving energy.

Intrigued? This is only an introduction to manifestation. Next month, in part 2 of 2, we will detail the most common manifestation techniques, including visualization, the 3-6-9 method, and a vision wheel.
