Ageism is manifested in a wide range of phenomena, both on individual and institutional levels—stereotypes and myths, outright disdain and dislike, or simply subtle avoidance of contact; discriminatory practices in housing, employment and services of all kinds; epithets, cartoons and jokes.

HIRAETH (PRONOUNCED HEERAEE) IS A GLORIOUS WELSH TERM that can be loosely translated into English as “longing.” Yet its true meaning has a great deal more nuance to it than simple longing.

LAST MONTH, I mentioned that Shirley and I visited Bandelier National Monument in New Mexico as a modest detour on our way from Santa Fe to Southern Colorado. Generally speaking, as RVers we are not urban tourists, but some cities are easier to navigate than others.
