Recognizing a growing need for vascular services in our community, a team of highly skilled and experienced vascular specialists from The University of Toledo Physicians Group recently established the Great Lakes Vascular Institute at 3439 Granite Circle in Toledo. This freestanding, outpatient-based facility is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art vascular services and procedures in one convenient and easily accessible location.
The Great Lakes Vascular Institute team consists of vascular surgeons Ayman Ahmed, MD; Munier M.S. Nazzal, MD; and Mohamed Osman, MD; as well as a physician assistant when needed, a nurse practitioner, RNs, LPNs, a radiology technician, and medical assistants, all of whom share the goal of providing exceptional, patient-centered care. “All the members of our staff are highly experienced, highly efficient, pleasant, and friendly,” states Dr. Ahmed. “Plus, they all very clearly enjoy what they do and always put the patient’s needs first, from the time they schedule their first appointment through post-treatment follow-up.”
Treatments provided at Great Lakes Vascular Institute include all types of vein and artery interventions, such as angiograms, fistulograms and other dialysis access procedures, radiofrequency ablation, sclerotherapy injections, phlebectomy, arterial and venous imaging, and advanced vascular diagnosis. “We are also currently in the process of adding the very latest cutting-edge procedure for treating varicose veins and venous insufficiency to our list of options,” Dr. Ahmed says.
In addition to providing comprehensive vascular services in an area of the community where they were lacking, Great Lakes Vascular Institute significantly enhances and streamlines patient access to vascular treatments. Karen Bauer, DNP, APRN-FNP, CWS, FAPWCA, Director of Wound Services for University of Toledo Physicians Group, explains, “Coming to Great Lakes Vascular Institute for outpatient treatment simplifies the process considerably. Scheduling is quick and easy, parking is convenient, the building is easy to navigate, and we provide ‘one-stop shopping’ for vascular treatments, both medical and cosmetic. In fact, patients are often surprised by the wide variety of cosmetic vascular procedures our doctors are able to perform. Plus, when you come here for treatment, you can expect to receive personalized, patient-focused care.”
Though Great Lakes Vascular Institute is a free-standing facility and not directly affiliated with a hospital, the providers are affiliated with the University of Toledo Medical Center and have access to hospital facilities whenever needed. Dr. Ahmed emphasizes, “We are a university team with extensive experience in a vast array of procedures, from simple to complex, and we stay up to date in all interventions. We also participate in a lot of research and clinical trials, so patients can rest assured we are on the leading edge of vascular care.”
