SEPTEMBER HAS ARRIVED, AND THIS MONTH IS LIBRARY CARD SIGN-UP MONTH.
Library card sign-up month highlights the benefits of having a library card. A library card provides access to books, e-books, audiobooks, magazines, digital resources, free printing and the ability to reserve meeting rooms. The library encourages families to visit and participate in programs, as it serves as a community hub for lifelong learning and connection.
The Toledo Lucas County Public Library, among other libraries in the nation, observes library card sign-up month as an opportunity to discover all the conveniences that come with having a library card. The library is for everyone, at any age and for groups to read together, be involved in a program or attend story time.
Toledo Lucas County Public Library communications strategist, Stephanie Elton, said the “Toledo Lucas County Public Library is a community hub.” She said the space is used to “find connection, to be curious, and to continue lifelong learning.” It’s back-to- school time, and having a library card helps students succeed, giving students resources such as homework help, books and other media and space to work on class projects with a group.
The library card program is for customers of all ages, from babies to adults. Programs for any age group include story time, live music, an author event, a book club, arts and crafts and writing. Elton said, “There are so many things for every one of every age of the library to do.” Families are encouraged to visit as a group, whether that is coming to pick up books to read together, being involved in a program or for Storytime.
