Body

AT FRANCISCAN CARE CENTER, we understand that keeping up a healthy diet is important to aging in a healthy way. Protein intake is especially important for seniors for several reasons. It plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health and well-being, and here are some key reasons why it is important for older adults:

Muscle maintenance and strength

Aging is linked with a natural decline in muscle mass and strength. Adequate protein intake helps to preserve and build muscle mass.

Immune health

Proteins are essential for the proper functioning of the immune system. As seniors may be more susceptible to infections and illnesses, protein can help support immune function.

Bone health

Protein is a vital component of bone tissue. It supports the maintenance of bone density and helps prevent conditions such as osteoporosis.

Wound healing

Protein is crucial for tissue repair and wound healing. Sufficient protein intake can aid in the healing process.

Maintaining healthy body weight

Adequate protein intake can help seniors maintain a healthy body weight. Protein-rich foods can be beneficial for those who may be at risk of unintentional weight loss.

Nutrient absorption

Protein is necessary for the absorption of essential nutrients. Ensuring an adequate protein intake helps maximize the absorption of other important nutrients.

Blood sugar management Protein can help regulate blood sugar levels, which is crucial, especially for those with diabetes or those at risk of developing insulin resistance.

Preventing malnutrition

Adequate protein intake is essential to prevent malnutrition and ensure that the body receives the necessary nutrients.

Protein isn’t just a cornerstone of good health; it’s also an avenue to culinary delight. At Franciscan Care Center, we understand that maintaining a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean compromising on taste.
