IF YOU EVER WANTED to be part of setting a Guinness World Record, you’ll get your chance at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2022 when the Blarney Irish Pub hosts the attempt in Downtown Toledo. Over 2,000 individuals, age 21 and over, are expected to come together to start moving at the same location and finish at the same location wearing kilts.
No shenanigans, the record attempt is for the most people walking or running a common route wearing a sport kilt—because this record is being attempted as part of the annual Blarney Shamrockin’ Shuffle, registrants will need to be over the age of 21 to participate. The threemile route begins on Monroe St. near Fifth Third Field and winds through the streets of downtown. There will be an option to cut the course short if you don’t want to finish the full three miles, and it won’t affect the record. Though it was scheduled to take place originally in 2022, this will be the first time in its history that this event will serve to attempt an in-person Guinness World Record.
Drawing its popularity from the fun-natured St. Paddy’s celebrations that follow into the night, this event also receives great attention for benefitting the Toledo Firefighters Local 92 Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, with donations from Run Toledo (the event organizer) of well over $30,000 since 2016. Several thousands of dollars have additionally been donated and can be donated by the community directly through the online platform at www.runsignup.com/shamrockinshuffle.
Everyone registering online will receive glow sticks to light up the night, a cotton shirt, a drink ticket, and entry into the Blarney’s outdoor party tent to celebrate until close. If you don’t have a kilt already, there’ll be a custom event kilt available during the signup process as well. A DJ and local bagpipers will kick off the night outside, with live entertainment keeping the energy up after the shuffle.
With all that we share in common as residents of Northwest Ohio, this will be another great way to celebrate around a fun experience supporting a good cause—and link us even closer together by setting a Guinness World Record. If you want to learn more about the event, you can visit www.shamrockinshuffle. com and assess your comfort level for attending as we come closer to the big day. Registration and kilts will be available up until the start of the shuffle or until sold out. Let’s go!
