Dear Readers, Thank you for picking up the September issue of Healthy Living News.

Adam and Chet Welch

We are proud to dedicate this month’s cover to Northwest Ohio’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, which returns to downtown Toledo on Sunday, September 28. The race aims to raise vital funds for breast cancer awareness, research, and services, including bringing the community together decked out in pink apparel. There is still a chance to sign up to be a part of this community event. We hope you'll join, whether as a race participant or spectator. We encourage anyone whose life has been touched by breast cancer to register and donate at komen.org/nwohiorace. See page 4, for more details.

We would like to remind HLN readers that September is Healthy Aging Month. The article on page 8, shines a spotlight on challenging Ageism, sponsored by Ombudsman, a care facility that empowers older individuals’ self-advocacy and participation in care planning. Ombudsman celebrates speaking for older individuals and facilitates their best care at a significant and vulnerable stage in life. Ombudsman offers education and community involvement opportunities that promote discussion on Ageism.

Also in this month’s issue, Daniel J. Jachimiak shares the benefits of music therapy, which is used to promote healing and improve quality of life (p.6); HNL contributor, Dennis Bova, shares the purpose of the Monarch Grief centers Soiree event at the end of September (p.11); Columnist, Sister Mary Thill for Spiritually Speaking addresses the importance of work over Labor Day at any age or stage of life (p.8); Daves Running Shop sets people up for the perfect running shoe, where they personally assess and evaluate the running shoe you need, (p.10) and Sister Karen Zielinski, asks the question, Is buying health products at warehouse stores worth it? (p.14) We hope you and your loved ones will enjoy the month of September in good health. There is much to look forward to this September in HNL as fall approaches. This month’s issue covers a range of topics for people of all ages, whether you are a parent who needs new breakfast ideas for back to school, a young adult seeking advice on navigating life, activities, and work, or someone who is supporting an aging parent. Remember, whenever you choose our advertisers’ products or services, be sure to tell them you “saw it in Healthy Living News.”
