Dear Readers, Thank you for picking up November’s edition of Healthy Living News.

The holidays are right around the corner, and we are honored to provide our readers with healthy living news. This month, on page 6, we begin with Morning Affirmations, by Daniel J. Jachimiak, who shares everyday morning affirmations, and what can be done to make morning affirmations a habit. This powerful habit can change your mindset for the whole day.

Speaking of healthy practices, on page 8, Spiritually Speaking contributor Sister Mary Thill shares Everyday Gratitude. She reminds us of the power of gratitude, not just during the Thanksgiving holiday, as we take the time to reflect and express gratitude while eating dinner with friends and family, but every day. Sister Mary Thill reminds readers that gratefulness is what leads to happiness. On page 11, we included seven ways to enjoy a healthy holiday, along with statistics on what is typically on a Thanksgiving dinner plate.

Don’t forget November is Diabetes awareness month. Eating Well contributor, Laurie Syring, on page 13, addresses what diabetes is and ways to maintain your health if you or a loved one has diabetes. The most important thing is to keep blood sugar within a healthy range while avoiding longterm complications.

For some in long-term care settings, the holiday season can amplify feelings of loneliness, grief, and depression. Rachel Hartshorn, Longterm Ombudsman Specialist, on page 8, says the community- family, friends, and staff- must be mindful of mental health challenges during the holidays and be proactive in combating the challenges. She explains why the holidays can be harder and what the community can do to help.

Also, in this month’s edition, we take our readers to Wood County Parks. Dennis Bova shares how the park districts are open all year long. Wood County Parks offer indoor activities and projects in November. One such project invites people to volunteer for a national bird reporting project. More on the project on page 15, November Gloomy? Not in Wood County Parks.

For any runners out there, Craig Rummel with Dave’s Running Club gives a runner’s guide to cold weather care on page 10. He dives into best practices and foot care to adapt to the cold weather.

We hope that you will be best prepared and ready for the holiday season approaching and you will enjoy this month’s edition of Healthy Living News.
