Theological Thoughts: the rose that blossoms in the desert

AXIOM

•Intuition can be intense, but it is real.

•God can make empty places have purpose.

•What am I awakening to?

•The name of God: Elohim, the one who speaks.

“God can make the desert rejoice and blossom as the rose.”

Isaiah 35:1 Sometimes I want to stay on the page I am living out instead of flipping to the next moment, as if life feels empty, asleep and needs to be awakened. Some aspects in my life seem missing–barren, confusing, off-putting, negative, heavy and pointless–devoid of purpose. And then God calls.

I am awakened from my slumber when I recognize His voice. God makes the empty, barren places fill with purpose. Life may not be as it seems but God spoke creation into existence and can speak life into emptiness. When I hear God's voice, I know it is not a blank page, another page is being written. I have something inside of me awakening to point me towards God’s purpose.

What is it? Intuition.

What is a gut feeling, or intuition? A gut feeling can involve future- telling, anticipation, predicting outcomes, uncertainty, prior knowledge and experience or moral dispositions. You know something to be true because you feel it in your gut. You hear, feel and see the direction God is leading you towards.

It is God’s nature to speak and from God speaking it reveals His purpose.

It sounds like: My intuition directs me towards what I hear from God, and I know I must follow His lead.

•“I know in my heart”–more like intuition.

•“I know things by heart”–invested, more personal.

•Then–my head tells my heart, “This time, no.”

•“It takes me so long to awaken to some things.”

It feels like: Perhaps, because I feel this way, this is where my intuition is leading me, showing me how to respond, or what I must do, although I do not know the outcome.

•Intuition, when it feels like life is going nowhere, but you know it could go somewhere, and you must figure out where it will go.

•Intuition, when someone has an unrealistic expectation, you see their blindness, but they don’t.

•Intuition, when you know whether to go somewhere or not, without any prompting.

•Intuition, when you can’t shake the feeling that something good or bad is coming unexpectedly.

•Intuition, when the choices you make are counterintuitive to what other people might feel is right.

•Intuition, when you can tell something feels unsafe before other people do and you know something is true before you were told.

It looks like: Being convinced to make a different decision or respond differently to another person’s view because you see what is true.

•You see something some way, but your mind shows you it is another way.

•The first option you see is usually the best option.

•You begin to see your purpose is from moments of weakness, or crises.

•You see past the smoke screen, seeing what is really going on.

The nature of intuition: Listening to what is around you and letting it change you to draw you closer to God.

•The nurture of intuition is the call of God. God calls; it is what God does.

•Intuition is the threading of God’s voice. The ability to hear God.

•You have intuition to build a relationship with God, to let God change you.

Twentieth-century Scottish Baptist evangelist and teacher, Oswald Chambers, said, “But to the soul alone with God the secret is known and made real....”

What is the purpose that is found?

The outcome is a result of God's nature–it changes you. He calls you to change you.

A crisis, or an empty moment may alter you; during those crises, you hear God's voice, drawing you closer to Him.

And then I sit with God, I light a candle and listen for when God speaks.

I have hope that He will change me, even if He doesn’t change the circumstances.

That’s the rose that blossoms in the desert.

Prayer: God, I sit with You in this moment when things feel purposeless, I hear Your voice and despite the circumstances Your voice awakens me, growing new life out of empty places and changing me in the process. Amen.
