Local nurse honored as Franciscan Care Center’s Employee of the Year: Kim Duncan–a heart of gold in our communities

FRANCISCAN CARE CENTER IS THRILLED TO ANNOUNCE THAT TOLEDO’S OWN KIM DUNCAN, an LPN, has been named the 2025 Employee of the Year, chosen from more than 1,800 employees across all CHI Living Communities.

Franciscan Care Center is a member of CHI Living Communities, which has 12 campuses located in seven states and cares for more than 5,000 seniors annually and is among the largest Senior Living organizations in the nation. Its parent company, CommonSpirit Health, has 140 hospitals and more than 1,000 care sites across the U.S.

For more than five years, Duncan has been a vital part of the Franciscan Care Center family, serving as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with a passion that shines through in every interaction. She's not just a nurse; she's a source of comfort, a reassuring presence, and a consistent smile for residents and colleagues alike.

Duncan is described as the 'unshakeable glue' of the center, especially through various changes. She is known for her remarkable strength and deep compassion. Colleagues affectionately call her their 'Compassionate Super Nurse,' a title she’s earned by consistently going above and beyond her duties.

Her dedication to both the wellbeing of the residents and the support of her fellow staff members is truly unparalleled.

When asked about her work, Duncan beautifully articulated her passion: 'I love taking care of the geriatric population and seeing them through to their next journey.

“I love hearing their stories and being able to relive those times with them.”

This genuine love for her patients is evident in all she does, fostering a sense of connection and dignity for those under her care.

Duncan is a proud Toledo resident; her local roots deepen her connection to the community she serves.

She possesses a unique gift for quickly identifying problems and finding effective solutions, ensuring the safety and comfort of everyone at the center.

It’s not uncommon to see her quietly organizing supplies, patiently guiding new team members, or offering thoughtful advice to anyone who seeks her counsel.

Her calm demeanor and unwavering commitment make her an invaluable asset to the center.

Vice President of Clinical Operations for CHI Living Communities, Dianne McFarland, said, “Kim’s genuine vocation as a nurse is a true blessing to our community.” She commented on how Duncan “navigates adversity with admirable patience, gives generously of her time and spirit, and approaches every day with a joyful heart. She truly makes Franciscan Care Center more than just a place of healing; she truly makes it a home.”

The entire Franciscan Care Center community extends a heartfelt thanks and congratulations to Kim Duncan for being a living example of compassionate care, teamwork, and joy.

Her invaluable presence enriches the lives of countless individuals within our Toledo community.
