St. Clare Commons celebrates 10 years of faith-based service August 10

TEN YEARS AGO, ST. CLARE COMMONS, part of CHI Living Communities, first opened its doors to welcome seniors seeking a full continuum of care and a variety of residential options—a community they could continue to call home as their care needs changed and where they would be nurtured in spirit as well as in body and mind. Since its founding, St. Clare Commons has continued to meet and exceed the expectations of residents and their loved ones, providing exceptional, compassionate, faith-based care.

To commemorate this decade of service, St. Clare Commons will host a 10th Anniversary Celebration, themed ‘X’ Marks the Spot, on Thursday, August 10, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on their idyllic campus located at 12469 Five Point Road in Perrysburg. The event, which is open to the public, will feature refreshments, prizes, entertainment, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and much more.

Contemplating this noteworthy anniversary, Prentice O. Lipsey, President and CEO of CHI Living Communities, remarks, “Over the past decade, we have been blessed to serve the thousands of residents and family members who have chosen St. Clare Commons to meet their needs. It’s a sacred privilege when someone entrusts their care—or that of a loved one—to us. We look forward to filling the same need for others throughout Northwest Ohio for many years to come.”

Vickie Honner, Director of Marketing and Admissions for St. Clare Commons, explains that the community offers five different levels of care, including short-term rehab, long-term care, memory care, assisted living, and independent living. “When you become part of our community, you can start in independent living, move to assisted living or memory care, and then move on from there to long-term care if needed. We provide a complete continuum of care all in one place.”

Among the many services and amenities available at St. Clare Commons, Honner is especially proud of the chapel, which is a focal point for the facility and vitally important to many of the residents and their families. While the community has a strong connection with the Catholic Church, non-Catholics are welcome to reside there and every effort is made to encourage the spiritual growth of residents of all faiths.

Catholic residents appreciate that Mass is offered on site two days per week and that special Masses celebrated at Saint John XXIII can be livestreamed right into their rooms. “In addition to Mass, we offer Bible study and we have a mission integration person on staff who works with everyone who comes here—residents and employees—and helps guide them along their faith journey,” Honner adds.

Honner is also proud that St. Clare Commons has a highly talented chef on staff who consults with residents to determine which foods they like and don’t like and then works to incorporate those preferences into the restaurant-quality meals he prepares.

Looking ten years into the future, Honner hopes that St. Clare Commons will remain the home of choice for people seeking independent living, assisted living, and memory care, while continuing to meet the community’s short-term-rehab and long-term-care needs. She’s also looking forward to showing what St. Clare Commons has to offer at the 10th Anniversary Celebration on August 10, stating, “The celebration will give the public an opportunity to come out, enjoy the festivities and refreshments, and possibly take a tour to see everything that’s going on here.”
