September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
by Jean Schoen
WEALLKNOW what the pink ribbon signifies; however, how many of you know what the gold ribbon signifies? The gold cancer ribbon represents Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, acknowledged annually in the month of September. This month is a time to raise awareness of the effects that cancer has on a family when a child is diagnosed, a time to educate others on how little is being done to advance the treatments for children’s cancers, a time to consider helping a family that has been affected by cancer.
Cancer Connection of NWO, Inc. is the only local organization with a specialized program for children with cancer. Our Kids Konnection program is a unique menu of free services to help the children and their families. These services include help obtaining disability benefits, gas cards, referrals to financial resources, hospital visits, accompaniment to oncology appointments, a Chemo Buddy, and much more. Additionally, we have three children’s books that are included in our Education Program for schools, young patients, and any child that has someone in their life with cancer.
The value of the free services that Cancer Connection of NWO, Inc. provides for each pediatric patient is equivalent to $600!
Please consider sponsoring a child who is going through cancer. Your support will not only benefit a little patient, but will also help to assist their family during this difficult time. Don’t let another child go through cancer alone—donate today at http://www. cancerconnectionofnorthwestohio. com/how-you-can-help/donate-now/ or mail a check to: Cancer Connection of NWO, Inc.
