FROM TIME TO TIME throughout the year, events and distractions can pop up and disrupt your daily routine, causing you to lose your focus on fitness and making it challenging to incorporate physical activity into your daily schedule. However, there are ways to combat this type of interruption.
Not every (or any) activity needs to be a marathon. Instead, simply strive to maintain a basic level of fitness so that when you resume real training after your schedule eases up, it won’t take long to get back up to speed.
Consider running in place while watching sporting events on television, or doing a set of push-ups, sit-ups, squats, and arm exercises each time your favorite team scores—no equipment required. Going for a run outside—or on the treadmill—for even one day a week for 20-30 minutes will make a tremendous difference in your positive outlook around the rest of your jam-packed schedule. Don’t forget to set an alarm on your Garmin, though. We know how runners get once they start, and you don’t want to be late for your next commitment just to get in an extra 0.17 miles.
Regardless of how much you’re able to do when life throws your focus off track, the key is making time to do something so you can maintain a base level of fitness and then recommit to your training routine as soon as time allows. Yes, that’s right! Summer races and bathing suit season are right around the corner, so you’re going to have to get back to it as quickly as possible!
Join us in committing to making time to stay active. We promise to help you try to achieve whatever fitness goal you set for yourself.
